Acts 2:38

Acts-2-38postWhy ACTS 2:38

It is important to understand that Acts 2:38 is just not some random scripture that was chosen in order to allow us to be different or as a means of separation from any other religion.  There is a reason.

The most basic and fundamental reason in answering the question, “Why Acts 2:38?” is found in scripture itself.

2 Timothy 2:15
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

The key is in RIGHTLY DIVIDING THE WORD OF TRUTH and thus following the scriptures just exactly as they were written.
When we rightly divide His word and follow the chronological order of events, a simple and powerful message will become clear.

When we look at the new testament, we find:

1)  The Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Like and John) – record the life of Christ from his entrance to his exit.

Which are followed by:

2). The book of Acts – this is where the church has its beginning.

So, why Acts 2:38?
The book of Acts picks up where the gospels leave off; thus, if we simply follow the events exactly as they occur, here is what we find.

Acts 1:3 –  After his life, death, burial and resurrection and just prior to his ascension, Christ spends 40 days teaching and training Peter and the disciples in the ways of the kingdom.

Acts 1:9  –  Christ ascends – The continuation of His mission to seek and save that which was lost is about to be left in the hands of his disciples.  Those he just trained.  What is about to occur is exactly what he intended.

Acts 1:12 –  Peter and the Disciples return to JERUSALEM  – It was the feast of Pentecost and the bible says there were at Jerusalem devout men out of every nation under heaven.  He had brought the world to their doorstep.

Acts 2:14-36 –  Peter preaches Jesus and him crucified to a lost world. Now that Jesus has ascended, this would be the very first sermon preached to the lost by those he trained.

Acts 2:37 –  Those to whom he preached are convicted in their hearts and ask Peter and the rest of the disciples, what shall we do?  This question was asked in response to Peter preaching Jesus.

Acts 2:38 – Peter gives the answer that we believe is the message of salvation as recorded by the rightly divided word of God.

Repent and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
