Youth

While our youth are energized we want to encourage them to focus their strength toward God and His Kingdom.1 Timothy 4:12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

Our Walkathon fund raiser is under way now, and already the Youth are going full force getting sponsors and pledges! At the rate we’re going, this walkathon should put us right where we need to be for Youth Convention, and all fund raisers following can be applied to Youth Congress, Columbus Ohio! We are so excited about these awesome events in 2011, and are having a total BLAST working to get there!
Church family, thank you so much for your support of our fund raisers, and of our wonderful youth. God bless each of you!

Hey all, this is a long post but I would like it to be food for thought. Enjoy.

Does anybody remember a great mountain top experience? Maybe a great service when you really met God at the altar. Or maybe some time in seclusion when God dealt with you in secret about deep things of your heart.

Let me ask this question: Do you know why God called you? Do you realize what things He has placed within you when He filled you with the Holy Ghost? Do you really know what destiny that holds for you?

In Genesis 28 the story known as “Jacobs Ladder” unfolds. We find Jacob, who is a young man, (in fact he was a teenager about this time) as he comes to a place in his life where God shows him a dream. This was a great thing in his life, done expressly to put hope in his heart. …Lets read that story.

    Genesis 28:11-17 says:
11 When he reached a certain place, he stopped for the night because
the sun had set. Taking one of the stones there, he put it under his
head and lay down to sleep.
12 He had a dream in which he saw a
stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and
the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.
    13 There above
it[c] stood the LORD, and he said: “I am the LORD, the God of your
father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your
descendants the land on which you are lying.
    14 Your descendants will
be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and
to the east, to the north and to the south. All peoples on earth will
be blessed through you and your offspring.[d]
15 I am with you and
will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this
land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised
    you.”
16 When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he thought, “Surely the
LORD is in this place, and I was not aware of it.”
    17 He was afraid
and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the
house of God; this is the gate of heaven.

Jacob needed to go on believing that God could certainly bridge gaps on Earth. Many years went by before he realized he had come a long way from his dream. He had come a long way from the place where he had it. How he longed to get back to that place he called Bethel!

How can we re-kindle our dreams young people? Where is the dream in your life? Is God waiting back at the starting line to speak to you again? Look around now at your world and know that He is a repairer of many breaches!

It’s through Gravatar. You go to this site, create a free account, and upload a picture. It will automatically show that picture when you enter your email to post on a lot of different blogs and websites. You can add profile information if you want, and adjust the settings so when someone mouses over your picture, your information pops up. It’s pretty cool, and saves time if you comment a lot!

  10. By Sister Melodie, February 1, 2011 @ 8:30 pm

Just an idea, guys — all this time off school is a GREAT opportunity for you to get in some good Bible reading and prayer time! No since in wasting the days, spend some extra time with God – talk to Him…listen to Him…study the Word. There’s nothing else you could do that would be more rewarding and beneficial than that!

  11. By Esha, February 1, 2011 @ 7:57 pm

    • By Sister Melodie, February 1, 2011 @ 8:24 pm

You are RIGHT, Esha! It was almost like running a restaurant! On a much smaller scale, of course. :-) And I heard more than one person say, “Man, we should just open a youth restaurant!” So, any ideas on a name for our restaurant? Anyone?
Come on, be creative…what should we name our YOUth Restaurant?

  13. By Kamme Lucas, February 1, 2011 @ 11:10 am

Well…we are prepared to serve over 100 spaghetti dinners tomorrow night! Our young people did a FANTASTIC job selling meal tickets! Congratulations to Stephanie Mignery, who was the top-seller, with 22 dinners sold! Her prize was a Cold Stone Creamery gift card, which was donated to us by the store manager there. Enjoy your ice cream, Stephanie!
Now, we will all go to prayer that the GIGANTIC winter storm will hold off until about 9pm tomorrow night! We want to have our spaghetti dinner night!! Most of all, we just enjoy being together!
Young people–you are awesome! Matt and I appreciate each one of you. Every single one of you is special, you bring something unique and important to our youth group. We need you! It’s so wonderful to see God blessing each one of you individually, and blessing us together as a unit!
Keep up the good work, and…..Youth Convention here we come!!

HUGE THANK YOU to EL MAGUEY! They have donated 30lbs of hamburger for our spaghetti dinner! If you are in El Maguey to eat anytime soon, be sure to speak to Rafael Perez and thank him for the donation and support!
By the way, we have sold 64 Spaghetti Dinner meal tickets so far. Fantastic!!

  18. By Sister Melodie, January 23, 2011 @ 12:01 am

WOW! This Spaghetti Dinner thing is going REALLY well! You guys are doing great at selling meal tickets! Keep it going!
We have had ALL of our paper goods (to-go boxes, cups, napkins, bags, etc…) donated now, by various restaurants in St Joseph. It’s great to have such a friendly, helpful community. When I went to pick up the items they had committed to, they were so interested in hearing more about what we are doing, and were so happy to help. Chili’s said if we need more, just come back to them, they’d love to give us whatever we need! Awesome!
God is helping us already. (And hopefully He will help us cook spaghetti for over 100 people!) Lol

  19. By Sister Melodie, January 21, 2011 @ 5:43 pm

So, we are well into January, and we are on our way to an awesome year as TPSJ Youth! We have many exciting events to look forward to in 2011! This means a ton of fun, but also a ton of work raising the funds required! Our goal is to have one fund raiser per month from now thru end of summer.

Our first fundraiser for Youth Convention 2011 is a Spaghetti-to-go Dinner, held on Monday, Jan 31st. The youth are currently selling tickets for a requested minimum donation of $5/person, or $2.50 for children 3 and under. Included in the meal is Spaghetti, Side Salad, Garlic Bread, Dessert, and Sweet or Unsweet Tea.
Meals may be picked up on Monday the 31st between 5:30 and 7:30pm.

We encourage you to participate in this event! Please purchase tickets from one of our youth as soon as possible. It’s a great meal, at a great price, for a great cause!

    Thank you for your support!
    Sister Melodie

      • By Sister Melodie, January 31, 2011 @ 10:31 pm

LaRay, I am surprised you didn’t know about those cooking skills yet! You and Kamme are pros at making Spaghetti Sauce! You both must have some Italian in you somewhere back there. Awesome job!

Youth service will be rescheduleded tonight and will be held tomorrow at 6:00pm
Our first concert practice will be held immediately after the service.

It is a short time until our exciting concert in March! During these
weeks we need maximum attendance and participation from everyone in

essential that we have your dedication for this special fundraising
event. If you are not able to attend youth service on a particular Friday night
